Malen Iglesias Joins Ohio State for 2022 Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Malen Inglesias, who wrapped up a stellar career at Fairfield University last fall, will join the Ohio State field hockey program and finish her eligibility with the Buckeyes as a graduate transfer in 2022.

Iglesias paced the Stags offense last fall, netting 11 goals with two assists for 24 points, setting a personal best for points and goals in a season. In addition, she tallied five game-winning goals and posted two of Fairfield’s three goals in the Stags’ NCAA Tournament game against Delaware, which included the game-tying goal at the end of regulation.

“I am really excited to welcome Malen to the Ohio State field hockey family for the upcoming year,” said head coach Jarred Martin. “She will fit in well with our program as I see someone who values academics and wants to compete to be her best. Her career is full of successes because of who she is as a player and a person and her ability to give her all to the team she is on. She is going to help our program with her play and leadership and personally I am looking forward to being her coach for the 2022 season.”

Iglesias was selected to the NFHCA All-Region team in 2021 and collected the NEC Player of the Year award to go along with All-NEC honors, the third team she received those accolades during her career. Fairfield won the 2021 NEC Tournament and earned the league automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Over her four years at Fairfield, Iglesias had 19 goals and 12 assists for 50 career points, averaging nearly a point per game over her 66 appearances.

An excellent student, Iglesias was selected as the Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete Of The Year in February of 2022. Additionally, she appeared on the NEC Academic and Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of the last three years.
