COLUMBUS, Ohio – A key early-season Big Ten battle takes place Saturday at noon when No. 12 Ohio State travels to State College, Pa. to face No. 14 Penn State at noon inside Panzer Stadium. The game can be seen live on BTN Plus.

Buckeye Notes to Know
- Ohio State is 1-1 on the year and coming off a 22-12 setback in its home opener against Rutgers last Saturday.
- The Buckeyes are ranked No. 12 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week.
- Griffin Hughes, a local product from Olentangy Liberty High School, had a career-high five goals last week and currently leads the team with eight scores on the year.
- Eight different players have scored at least one goal and eight also have multiple points through two games.
- Hughes, Jack Myers and Tre Leclaire have combined for 24 of the Buckeyes’ 37 points on the season.
- Face-off specialist Justin Inacio made his 2021 debut last week and won 18 draws against the Scarlet Knights.
Scouting Penn State
- The Nittany Lions are 0-2 on the season with both of their losses coming to teams ranked inside the top five of the USILA Coaches Poll.
- Penn State began its season with an 11-9 loss at No. 5 Rutgers and then was defeated by No. 3 Maryland last Friday, 13-7.
- Mac O’Keefe has one goal in each of Penn State’s first two games. He is No. 2 on the list of active career goal scorers nationally with 194 in his 57-game career.
- Head coach Jeff Tambroni is in his 11th year at Penn State and has a record of 198-94 in 20 years as a head coach both with the Nittany Lions and at Cornell.
History vs. Penn State
- Saturday marks the 24th all-time meeting between Penn State and Ohio State. The series began in 1979 and the two teams have faced each other annually since 2003 (with the exception of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
- The last Ohio State win in the series came in State College, a 10-8 triumph during the 2015 season.
- Three of the last seven games have been decided by two goals or less.
Three Senior CLASS Award Candidates
- On Thursday, three Buckeyes – Tre Leclaire, Ryan Terefenko and Jeff Henrick – were among the 20 candidates announced for the Senior CLASS Award.
- To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
- Terefenko and Henrick are each serving as team captains for the third consecutive year.
- Leclaire is on his way to being the most prolific goal scorer in program history. The Surrey, British Columbia native is six goals away from passing Logan Schuss’ career total of 147.
