COLUMBUS, Ohio — The tryout process to become a member of the 2022-23 Ohio State Rowing program is set to get underway in August.
No previous rowing experience is required. The Ohio State rowing coaching staff will instruct those interested in becoming a competitive rower for the Buckeyes everything needed to become part of Ohio State’s highly-successful program.
Open tryouts are held for any Ohio State student who meets the NCAA standards to participate.
The first step to getting started is to apply for tryouts HERE and then attend an information meeting in August (see dates below). At the information meeting next steps will be discussed. If you are unable to attend an information meeting, please reach out to novice coach Emily Gackowski (Gackowski.email@example.com).
Tryouts will begin in the second week of the academic term and will be a two-week process. The Buckeyes are looking for the most athletic and toughest athletes on campus.
Our first-year rowers are incredibly important to the team’s success. More than 50% of the team members are individuals who did not row before coming to college. They learned to row right here in Columbus and are now competing with and against some of the best rowers in the world.
At the 2022 Big Ten Championships, the two Ohio State novice (first year rowers) boats won medals, one gold and one silver, and the Buckeyes won the team championship. More than half of Ohio State’s squad at Big Tens started in our novice program. Former and current novice rowers were in each of the seven boats that raced at the 2022 Big Ten Regatta.
For more information about the team and the process, check out the novice rowing info page HERE.
