COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second week in a row, Ohio State women’s hockey’s Sophie Jaques has garnered Defender of the Week honors by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Jaques tallied six points in Ohio State’s series sweep of Bemidji State last weekend and helped the Buckeyes hold the Beavers to just 24 shots on goal.
Jaques, a native of Toronto, Ont. tallied a pair of goals in each game against Bemidji State. In game one, she recorded the second and third goals of the team’s 4-0 shutout win. In game two, she added the final two tallies of the Buckeyes’ 5-2 victory. She has now recorded three multi-goal games this season and leads the team with seven goals and 11 points.
Finishing with a team-high +6 in the series, the graduate defenseman was on the ice for seven of Ohio State’s nine goals of the weekend. She also recorded two assists in the series.
In addition to her offensive point production, Jaques helped the Ohio State defensive effort earn the team’s first shutout of the season. Overall, the Buckeyes allowed only 24 shots on goal and two goals last weekend while finishing 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Jaques blocked two shots for Ohio State in the series.
