COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fifth-year senior Justin Inacio earned a spot on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Team of the Week on Tuesday thanks for his dominant performance in the X last Saturday.
Inacio won 20-of-22 face-offs against the Vikings and added 13 ground balls as the Buckeyes improved to 2-0 on the season with a 17-9 win. For good measure, Inacio also scored a goal and assisted on another. His 20 face-off wins are tied for the third-most in single-game school history and his .909 winning percentage is the best by a Division I player in a game so far this season.
Through two weeks, Inacio is the nation’s leader in face-off win percentage (.884). He also ranks fourth in total face-offs won (38) and seventh in ground balls per game (10.00).
A biology major from Oakville, Ontario, Inacio is chasing two records this season: He currently ranks No. 2 all-time in face-off wins (568) and ground balls (279). The No. 1 spot on both those lists belongs to Jake Withers, who had 614 face-off wins and 351 ground balls from 2014-17. Inacio is currently third among all active Division I players in career face-off wins.
Inacio and the rest of the Buckeyes head to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a Saturday showdown against No. 4 North Carolina at 3 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on the ACC Network.
