COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomores Jakub Dobeš and Mason Lohrei of the No. 16/18 Ohio State men’s hockey team were selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten Second Team, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. The seven league head coaches voted on the preseason teams and poll.

Both Dobeš and Lohrei were named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team last season. Dobeš was the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and the co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Lohrei was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection.

Dobeš, from Ostrava, Czech Republic, and a Montreal Canadians draft pick, played in 35 of 37 games in 2021-22, starting 34, and was 21-11-2, with a 2.26 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. A Mike Richter Award semifinalist, he ranked in the Top 7 in the NCAA in save percentage, saves and wins. His .934 save percentage is second in school history and his 21 wins rank fifth (tied) all-time, while his 1,086 saves are the second-most in a single season for a Buckeye. Dobeš was a four-time Big Ten Star of the Week, the national rookie of the month in October and the co-national goaltender of the month in January.

Lohrei, a Boston Bruins draft pick who is a Madison, Wis., native, had 25 assists and 29 points in 2021-22, ranking in the Top 8 in the NCAA in assists per game overall and points per game among defensemen while playing in 31 games. His 25 assists rank 10th in Ohio State history for a single season by a defenseman and are tied for eighth by a Buckeye freshman skater, while his .81 assists per game are tied for the second-best by a Buckeye since 2000. A two-time Big Ten Star of the Week, Lohrei was +16 on the year and blocked 41 shots.

Minnesota was first in the Big Ten coaches preseason poll, followed by Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan State.

The Buckeyes return 22 players from last year’s squad that was 22-13-2 and finished the season ranked 15th.
