D’Angelo Russell Wins Jerry West Award – Ohio State Buckeyes

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Ohio State freshman D’Angelo Russell was honored with the Jerry West Award, given to the nation’s top collegiate shooting guard, Friday evening at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy’s at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Russell, a Wooden Award All-American, was a finalist for the award, given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, along with Jerian Grant of Notre Dame, Buddy Hield of Oklahoma, Ron Baker of Wichita State and Tyler Haws of Brigham Young.
Utah’s Delon Wright won the Bob Cousy Award as the top point guard in the country, Stanley Johnson of Arizona earned the Julius Erving Award as the best small forward, Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell was selected as the nation’s top power forward with the Karl Malone Award and Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award as the country’s best center.
Russell was a consensus All-American in 2015, making the first team on the Sporting News, United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Associated Press All-America squads. The 2015 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Russell set an Ohio State freshman record in leading the Buckeyes in scoring with 675 points and a 19.3 ppg. scoring average.
