COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming off a tremendous weekend that saw a sweep of No. 1 Tennessee and No. 6 Virginia, the Ohio State men’s tennis team has risen to a No. 1 ranking in the country according to both the ITA and the Tennis Channel / USTA College Tennis polls this week.
This is the first time Ohio State has been ranked No. 1 since the 2019 season. That year, the Buckeyes jumped to No. 1 on Feb. 20 and held that ranking throughout the regular season before finishing No. 3 in the final poll.
Last weekend, Ohio State swept No. 1 Tennessee 4-0 on Friday night then also swept No. 6 Virginia on Sunday. The win over Virginia exacted a bit of revenge on the Cavaliers who beat Ohio State last season in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
In addition to the team rankings, updated singles and doubles rankings were also released on Wednesday and the Buckeyes were well represented. Four Buckeyes are ranked in singles, including three in the Top 16. Matej Vocel leads the way at No. 6 which JJ Tracy is ranked No. 11 and Cannon Kingsley is ranked No. 16. James Trotter rounds out the Buckeye quartet at No. 36. No other team has more than three players ranked in the Top 40.
In doubles, the Buckeyes continue to be ahead of the pack as they boast the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams. Vocel and Robert Cash remain at No. 1 while Trotter and Justin Boulais are No. 2. The Buckeyes have not lost a doubles point yet this season and have only lost one doubles matches over all.
This weekend will be another big weekend at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center as the Buckeyes will host No. 10 Kentucky on Friday night and No. 6 Wake Forest on Sunday.
