Buckeyes Host Indiana and Ohio This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A five-game homestand for the Ohio State field hockey team comes a close this weekend as the Buckeyes host Indiana and Ohio on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Admission to both games is free.

Basics on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is 6-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten Conference. The Buckeyes are ranked No. 16 in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, their highest ranking of the season.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 loss to No. 2 Michigan on Sunday in which it held the Wolverines to their lowest offensive output of the season.
- Ohio State’s leading goal-scorer is junior Leanne Bough, who has scored five times with four of those as game-winners.
- Sophomore Megan McKenna is set with three goals and an assist for seven points while Katie Pyle, Hallie Brost, Cameryn Forgash and Emma Goldean all have two goals.
- Senior goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez had made nine starts and has a 1.40 goals-against average, good for sixth-best in the conference, and .800 save percentage, which ranks third-best.
- Head coach Jarred Martin is in his fifth season leading the Buckeyes and has a record of 44-39. He’s 6-0 against Indiana and 3-0 versus Ohio.
Scouting Indiana
- Indiana is 6-6 on the season and coming off losses last weekend at Penn State and Rutgers. The Hoosiers fell to double overtime to the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, 2-1, and dropped a 4-1 decision at Penn State on Friday.
- Friday’s game will be Indiana’s second this season in Columbus. On Sept. 5, they lost 4-0 to Lafayette at Buckeye Varsity Field as part of the Buckeye Invitational.
- The Hoosiers’ six wins this year have come over Central Michigan, Davidson, Miami (Ohio), Bellarmine, Richmond and Ball State.
- Kira Curland, who has started all 12 games, is the team’s leading scorer with four goals and eight points.
- Goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has a .627 save percentage and 1.80 goals-against average in 11 starts this season.
- Indiana has one Ohioan on its roster: freshman Maggie Carter, a native of Shaker Heights and graduate of Shaker Heights High School.
Scouting Ohio
- Ohio will be the third in-state foe that the Buckeyes have faced this year after previously splitting games versus Kent State and Miami (Ohio).
- The Bobcats are 4-8 this season and 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference.
- Against common opponents, both Ohio State and Ohio both own wins over Ball State and losses to Kent State. Ohio State defeated Michigan State, 4-3, while the Bobcats suffered a 2-0 setback.
- Jillian Shive leads the team in both goals (eight) and points (18) while Katelyn Whittle has six goals and 12 points while playing in all 12 games.
- Goalkeeper Nele Graner has a 2.56 goals-against average and .684 save percentage in 11 starts.
A History Lesson
- The Ohio State-Ohio series is one of the longest-running non-conference games in program history. The two teams have met 42 times with Ohio State holding a 29-10-3 lead.
- The Buckeyes have won five straight in the series since a 1-0 Ohio win in 2015.
- Ohio State is 23-9-1 all-time against Indiana, including two wins during last spring’s Big Ten-only schedule.
- The Buckeyes have won six straight over the Hoosiers since a 3-0 loss in 2016.
