The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team will hold its annual Scarlet and Gray meet on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Covelli Center. The meet, which is free to attend, will give fans a preview of the 2022 Buckeyes before the team begins the season on Jan. 7 at Arkansas.
“I am so excited to welcome fans back to our Scarlet and Gray meet,” said Ohio State head coach Meredith Paulicivic. “The support of Buckeye Nation is unmatched and we can’t wait to have fans back in Covelli cheering us on as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
In addition to free admission, there will be free posters and the team will hold a meet and greet following the conclusion of competition. While there will be no official scoring, celebrity judges will be in attendance to rate each gymnast’s performance.
Paid parking is available in the Buckeye Lots located on Ackerman Road.
INTRASQUAD FORMAT
Different from Scarlet and Gray meets of years past, the Buckeyes will not be separated into two separate teams. Instead, to mimic an away meet, the Buckeyes will rotate as a team through all four apparatuses, beginning with bars, then moving to vault, followed by floor and ending on beam.
Paulicivic and staff made the decision to follow this format in order to best prepare the team for the upcoming season opener on the road.
MEET THE TEAM
Following the meet, the student-athletes will be available for a meet-and-greet and poster signing. This year’s roster features 14 returning letterwinners and six newcomers. The freshmen class of Stephanie Berger, Kaitlyn Grimes, Jenna Hlavach, Maddy Pike and Tory Vetter is Paulicivic’s first top-15 recruiting class of her tenure at Ohio State.
2021 LOOK BACK
Last season, the Buckeyes advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the NCAA implemented its new regional format. The team scored a 196.525, good for the 10th best team score in program history, to advance to the NCAA regional final. Ohio State finished the regular season 9-7 against conference opponents, including two wins over ranked foes.
