COLUMBUS, Ohio – The anticipation met the result as the Buckeyes defeated No.1 Texas in a premier matchup between two of the nation’s top programs. Buckeye Nation came to represent as the OSU Varsity Tennis Center reached capacity with a standing-room only crowd.
In doubles, Kyle Seelig and Cannon Kingsley jumped out to an early 6-4 victory on court three over Longhorn tandem Chih Chi Huang and Cleeve Harper. On court one, No. 2 doubles team John McNally and Robert Cash extended their win streak over No. 5 Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito to clinch the doubles for the Buckeyes.
In singles, No.28 Kyle Seelig controlled the tempo with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Siem Woldeab on court four. No. 2 ranked Yuya Ito outlasted No. 24 John McNally 6-3,6-3 to put the Longhorns on the board with their first match point. No. 40 James Trotter kept pace to push the match lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Cleeve Harper. Freshman Robert Cash would clinch the match point with 6-4,6-3 victory over Chih Chi Huang on court six.
This win extends Ohio State’s home-match winning streak to 88 since their last loss at home to No.1 Oklahoma in 2015.
