COLUMBUS, Ohio – This season, fifth-year seniors Gustaf Westlund and Jake Wise will wear the captain’s ‘C’ for the Ohio State men’s hockey team, with senior Jaedon Leslie serving as the alternate captain.
Gustaf Westlund, from Stockholm, Sweden, was also a captain last season and served as an alternate captain as a junior in 2020-21. He is the first European to serve as a captain for the Buckeyes. Westlund is a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten pick. He has skated in 119 games in the Scarlet and Gray, with 70 points on 31 goals and 39 assists.
A Chicago Blackhawks draft pick, Jake Wise, a native of Reading, Mass., is in his second season at Ohio State. An Ohio State Scholar-Athlete last year, he has seen action in 85 collegiate games between Ohio State and Boston University, with 45 points on 13 goals and 32 assists.
Jaedon Leslie, who hails from St. Albert, Alberta, was also an alternate captain last season. He has earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete accolades three times and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice. Leslie has skated in 64 games as a Buckeye, with 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists.
Ohio State opens the season with a road series at Mercyhurst this weekend, playing at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 4:05 p.m. Sunday, before hosting Wisconsin Oct. 7-8 in Value City Arena to begin Big Ten play.
