COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker has announced the signing of Blue Chip recruit Alex Fuchs to a national letter of intent.
The Los Altos, Calif., native is currently ranked #1 in the USTA Boys 18s in Northern California and #6 in the Nation. He has also been ranked as high as #17 in his class according to tennisrecruiting.com.
Fuchs and his partner Emon van Loben Sels won the USTA Boys 18s 2022 National Indoor Doubles Championships in Overland Park, Kan. this past fall. He also helped Northern California win the team championship this past summer in the inaugural USTA Battle of the Sections in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“We are so excited to announce the signing of Alex Fuchs,” Tucker said. “We had the best time recruiting this young man and his family. What stood out is how much Alex wants to play tennis and compete at the highest level. Coach Kro and I believe Alex can be a big-time college tennis player and we look forward to starting with him this summer. He has great size and has been coached so well to this point in his career.”
Fuchs is currently coached by Joey Johnson in Orange County California and has been coached by Steve Roberts in the San Francisco Bay Area and by Steve Smith in South Florida. Steve is the father of Connor Smith, a former Buckeye.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent the Scarlet and Gray,” said Fuchs. “I look forward to working with my teammates, coaches, and staff to become the best I can be athletically, academically, and spiritually. I can’t wait to get started! Go Bucks!”
“I’m very excited to welcome Alex to the Buckeye family,” associate head coach Justin Kronauge said.
“The other coaches and I can’t wait to get him to campus to start working. He has an extremely bright future at Ohio State.”
Fuchs is the son of Mark and Becky Fuchs. He has an older sister Elizabeth who played division III college tennis and an older brother Zach who currently plays tennis at Brigham Young University.
Fuchs plans to graduate high school a year early and will enroll at Ohio State this upcoming fall.
