Filin Named Big Ten Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nikita Filin was named the Big Ten Player of the Week Wednesday after going 5-1 last week in road wins at No. 9 Texas A&M, Indiana (4-1) and Purdue (5-0).Â
Filin won all three of his singles matches, twice at the No. 4 position and once at No. 6. Ranked No. 1 in doubles with teammate Brandon Carpico, the pair went 2-1 with a win against the Aggies' No. 13 ranked team of Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac (6-3) and at Purdue against Henrik Villanger and Maj Premzl (6-4).
The Buckeyes are back in action this weekend against No. 14 Illinois Friday (6 p.m.) and against Northwestern Saturday (11 a.m.). Both matches are in Columbus at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.    Â
Since the season opened in the fall, five Ohio State players have collected a Big Ten Player of the Week honor. Buckeyes have earned the award a total of eight times. Filin has earned the award three times with Jack Anthrop winning twice; Aidan Kim, Alex Okonkwo and Alexander Bernard have earned it once each.
