Blueliner Mason Lohrei Signs Pro Contract

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Standout defenseman Mason Lohrei has signed an AHL amateur tryout agreement with the Providence Bruins, the NHL Boston Bruins announced Friday. The native of Madison, Wis., was drafted by Boston in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
In two years with the Buckeyes, Lohrei had 61 points, with eight goals and 53 assists, in 71 games, with a +13 rating and 98 shot blocks. He was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 2022-23 when he posted a 4-28-32 line, ranking second for the Buckeyes in assists and third in points. As a rookie he earned Honorable Mention All-B1G accolades and had 25 assists and 29 points in 31 games. His 28 assists this season tied for fifth in a single year among Buckeye defensemen all-time, while his 25 as a freshman are 11th. Lohrei’s .859 points per game average is the best for a Buckeye defenseman since at least 2003-04.
A two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year finalist, he is seventh among defensemen in the nation (third in the Big Ten) with .70 assists per game and his 28 assists rank fifth among blueliners this season. Among all skaters, he is seventh in the Big Ten and 24th nationally in assists per game.
