
Big Ten Championship Game Rematch on Tap Sunday vs. Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State and Michigan meet in field hockey for the first time since last April’s Big Ten Tournament Championship Game as the 18th-ranked Buckeyes and second-ranked Wolverines square off Sunday at noon in Columbus. Admission to Buckeye Varsity Field is free.

Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is 6-3 on the season and ranked No. 18 in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, which marks its highest ranking of the season.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a 2-1 double overtime loss to No. 3 Louisville on Monday.
- Ohio State led the game 1-0 entering the fourth quarter and were keyed by nine saves from senior goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez.
- Sunday’s game is part of a five-game homestand for Ohio State which continues next weekend with games vs. Indiana (Oct. 8) and Ohio (Oct. 10).
- Despite Monday’s result, the Buckeyes have won five of their last seven games after a 1-1 start to the season.

- Ohio State’s leading goal scorer is junior Leanne Bough, who has five tallies on the season and 10 points.
- Bough leads the Big Ten with four game-winning goals.
- Six different players have at least two goals through the first nine games. After Bough, that group includes sophomore Megan McKenna (three), Katie Pyle (two), Hallie Brost (two), Cameryn Forgash (two) and Emma Goldean (two).
- Goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez’s 1.43 goals-against average ranks 22nd nationally and sixth in the Big Ten. She’s third in the conference in save percentage (.776).
- The Buckeyes are tops in the Big Ten in saves per game (5.44) and second in save percentage (.778).
- Ohio State had outshot its opponents 125-102 on the season and is averaging nearly 14 shots per game.
- The Buckeyes are 1-0 in Big Ten Conference play thanks to their 4-3 win over Michigan State on Sept. 17.
Scouting Michigan
- The Wolverines, who played in the national championship game last April, possess the nation’s top scoring offense with an average of 5.00 goals per game.
- Their scoring margin of 4.14 goals/game is also tops in the country and 8.38 penalty corners to per game ranks second.
- Sofia Southam is averaging 2.17 goals per game, which is tops in the country, and 4.50 points per game, which also ranks No. 1.
- Michigan owns four wins this season over ranked teams: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 25 Michigan State and No. 23 Kent State.

- Seven of the Ohio State’s nine remaining regular season opponents are ranked in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
- The Big Ten Conference has six of the nation’s top-10 ranked teams: No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 Michigan, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 6 Rutgers, No. 7 Maryland and No. 8 Penn State.
