Alexander Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Regan Alexander, a sophomore goalie on the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, has been selected the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The native of Orlando, Fla., picked up two wins last week, making 20 saves.

Alexander led the Buckeyes to wins over Cincinnati and Marquette last week, stopping 57.1 percent of the shots she faced, with an 8.23 goals-against average. On the road against Cincinnati last Wednesday, Alexander had a career-best 13 saves in 49:18, allowing just four goals. Five of her saves came in the fourth quarter. Sunday vs. Marquette, Alexander played all 60 minutes and had seven saves, along with two ground balls and a caused turnover. She allowed five goals in the final 45 minutes as Ohio State came from behind to win, including a shutout streak of 18:40.

This year, Alexander is 2-0 with two starts and three games played, posting a 7.32 goals-against average and .622 save percentage. She is second nationally in save percentage and 10th in goals-against average, ranking 14th in saves with 28.

Ohio State heads to Colorado this weekend for two games. The Buckeyes will face No. 15 Denver at 3 p.m. ET Friday and play at Colorado at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

The Buckeyes will then return home to host No. 13 James Madison at 3 p.m. March 4, with the game expected to be played outdoors in Ohio Stadium. Admission is free to all Ohio State women’s lacrosse regular season home games.
