COLUMBUS, Ohio – Laurence Wootton, a sophomore captain, was named a member of the 2021 First Team All-Big Ten squad Friday following a vote by the league coaches.

Wootton, who led the Buckeyes with 14 points and six goals this fall, was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team following the 2021 spring season.

Earlier this fall, he was named a Top 25 men’s soccer student-athlete nationally by TopDrawerSoccer. The midfielder from Halstead, England, is ranked as the No. 21 player, the second highest rated player in the Big Ten.

Three other Buckeyes also were recognized by the league coaches Friday.

Nathan Demian and Anthony Samways, both defenders, were named to the 2021 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Demian, a native of British Columbia, started all 16 games this fall. He played nearly 1,500 minutes and was named by TopDrawerSoccer as one of the Top 100 freshmen nationally (36).

Samways, who hails from nearby New Albany, Ohi0, also was named one of the Top 100 freshmen (62). He started 13 of 15 games played this season. He assisted on a pair of goals on the year, both leading to wins (vs. Akron and Michigan).

Senior Xavier Green was selected as Ohio State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.

Green started all 16 games, playing 1,347 minutes. He scored four times (OSU was 3-1 in those games) and assisted on the game-winning goal vs. No. 7 Akron (W, 1-0) Sept. 15.

He also led the team in shots with 38 and was second in points with nine.
