Senior Lisa Chesson has developed into one of the top defenseman in the WCHA conference over her career at Ohio State. The last two seasons, the native of Plainfield, Ill., has been twice named Third Team All-WCHA and her increasing skills on the ice were noticed by USA Hockey as she was named to the U.S. Select Team and competed in the 2007 Four Nations Cup in November. Chesson, an assistant captain, has totaled 18 points with seven goals and 11 assists in 28 games this season. Along with earning the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player award the last two seasons, Chesson has climbed the Ohio State record books and sits fifth all-time in defenseman scoring with 81 points and eighth in assists with 55 in 138 career games.
I am… the sweaty kid on the team.
I have… an electric blue fiddle I bought off of e-bay for 5 cents that I can’t play.
I will… get that FO SHO!
I started playing hockey because… my dad and older brother played and I wanted to be like them. My parents put me in figure skating and I cried all the time because I hated it and didn’t want to wear any of the ridiculous costumes.
I chose to come to Ohio State because… who wouldn’t want to be a Buckeye?
The best thing about playing college athletics is… it is so competitive and you grow up a lot in the four years.
As a senior, I want to… leave with no regrets
You would never guess that I… have a huge fear of heights. [Colleen] Olson knows it the best!
The hardest thing I’ve ever done is…move away from my parents.
Three words to describe me are… sarcastic, humble, and soooo good looking!
The best thing about playing at home is…we have amazing fans.
If I had a million dollars I would…buy an establishment on High Street.
Fans may not know this about the team…Liana is secretly related to Jesse Owens, Mal only gives hand shakes if you are wearing gloves, Olivia dances in front of the mirror when she thinks nobody sees, Olson has a phobia of showers, Teal only eats sushi and Rocky has the smelliest equipment on the team.
My biggest pet peeve is … people that chew with their mouth open and when people don’t pick up their feet when they walk!
The person I would like to be stuck in an elevator with is… Kenny Chesney.
In 20 years, I would like to be… raising a family and living on the beach somewhere, still playing hockey at the ripe age of 41!
When not at the rink, my favorite thing to do is… try to line dance unsuccessfully.
I can’t imagine living without… my family.
I am an avid fan of these sports teams… San Jose Sharks.
Favorite song to sing in the shower… “Everything” by Michael Buble!
My favorite candy is… anything sour!
The last movie I saw was… Juno.
My favorite spot on campus is… the rink in the winter and the Oval in the spring
What are your pre-game rituals/routines? I eat oatmeal two hours before game time and I can’t say the rest…too many little things!
What’s your favorite kind of oatmeal? Baked Apple
What’s in your refrigerator? Lunchmeat, fruit, milk, eggs…I am on a tight budget.
What was your reaction when you learned that you were an assistant captain? Shocked, excited, yet ready to take on the role.
What are your plans for after graduation? I have one more year of school left and after that hopefully starting a career in meteorology.
What was it like to represent the U.S. at the Four Nations Cup and play under the direction of head coach Jackie Barto with another team? What was your favorite part of the tournament? It was an amazing experience not only to travel over seas but also to represent the U.S. Playing under the direction of Jackie made me more comfortable being it was my first time playing at the international level. She is a great coach who brings a lot to a team. I don’t think that I could single out a favorite part; it was all pretty exciting to me!
Tell us about your family… I have two loving parents Jeff and Mary Ann who have done so many things for me! I also have a 24-year old brother (Phil) who recently moved to Florida to start his new family. Oh yea, we have a cat named Boo she’s kind of a big deal on YouTube!
Tell us about your hometown (Plainfield, Ill.)… Plainfield used to be a small town, now it is ginormous with too many houses and schools. We used to play in the cornfields, now we have to travel to the city (Chicago) because there is not too much to do anymore.
What is the funniest way someone has described your voice? When I call people that don’t know me they think I am a 5-year old, and my eighth grade teacher used to call me squeaker all the time, but there are a few that think it’s rather sexy!
Anything you want to add…Go Bucks!
