COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Matej Vocel picked up a pair of wins last week in helping lead Ohio State to a 4-3 road victory over No. 15 Texas and has been named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Vocel rolled through his doubles match with partner Robert Cash, beating Richard Ciamarra and Micah Braswell 6-1. That was a key win as it helped the Buckeyes claim the crucial doubles point. In singles, he downed No. 32 Richard Ciamarra 6-4, 6-2 to claim his 13th win over a ranked opponent this season.
He is 19-4 on the year in singles and 24-5 in doubles. He and Cash remain the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country and Vocel is holding steady at No. 5 in the singles rankings.
Vocel and the Buckeyes look to complete their Texas road trip with a win as they take on No. 28 Texas A&M Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
