Two Top 20 Matchups in the Pool Friday; Ohio State at Indiana

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, each 1-0 in 2021, travel to Bloomington, Ind., this week for dual meet action with the Indiana Hoosiers. Start time is 3 p.m. at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center on the IU campus.

Both meets will be intense and competitive with all four teams nationally ranked in the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America Top 25 polls. Ohio State’s women are ranked No. 14 nationally while Indiana’s women are No. 12. Ohio State’s men are No. 17 and Indiana’s men are No. 7. Penn State’s teams, which Ohio State defeated in a dual meet last weekend at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, are also in the Top 25 and Northwestern is a fourth Big Ten team in the Top 25 on the women’s side.

Ohio State Coaches
Bill Dorenkott is in his 13th year at Ohio State and his fourth year as director of men’s and women’s swimming and diving. His 2019-20 women’s team won the Big Ten championship while the men were runner-up. Dorenkott was named the Big Ten women’s swimming coach of the year, an honor he also won in 2005 while at Penn State.

Dorenkott spent 10 seasons as head coach of the Penn State women’s program led them to three Big Ten championships: 2002, 2005 and 2006. He has coached his swimmers to 52 individual Big Ten championships.

Justin Sochor is in his eighth season as Ohio State’s diving coach. He was the 2016 and 2020 Big Ten men’s diving coach of the year and his divers have won three individual Big Ten titles.

Ohio State will complete this abbreviated regular season at Michigan on the weekend of Feb. 5-6. The Big Ten championships are scheduled at this time for Feb. 24-27.
