COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State men’s tennis team improved to 23-2 with its quarterfinal victory over Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes faced the Spartans in their most recent match where they swept them 7-0. The Buckeyes have now beat the Spartans in 29 straight matches with today marking their 12th straight sweep.

In doubles, The Buckeyes built early momentum with a quick victory on court three. Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy’s swift 6-1 victory was followed by a back-and-forth battle on both courts one and two. Matej Vocel and Robert Cash overcame a strong effort from the Spartans that sent the match into a tiebreaker. The number one ranked duo, Vocel and Cash, found their stride in the tiebreaker and won 7-2 to clinch the doubles point. Though unfinished, Andrew Lutschaunig and Justin Boulais found themselves fighting from behind for most of the match but won two straight to tie it at 5-5. They fought back from a 5-6 deficit to send it to a tiebreaker and led 2-0 before Vocel and Cash sealed the doubles point.

In singles, the Buckeyes channeled Kingsley and Tracy’s doubles momentum and produced three dominant wins. JJ Tracy finished first earning a 6-2 first set win and a perfect 6-0 second set win. Vocel followed just after with another strong straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-1. James Trotter capped off the perfect day for Ohio State with his 6-1, 6-2 victory cementing the quarterfinal Buckeye sweep.

The Buckeyes advance to the semifinals with today’s victory and are back in action tomorrow at noon E.T. where they will face either fourth seed Northwestern or fifth seed Nebraska.
