Columbus, Ohio – Three Ohio State football players have received scholarships, head coach Jim Tressel announced Thursday. John Conroy and Steve Winner, both offensive linemen, and Rob Harley, a defensive back, will be converted to scholarship starting in the fall quarter. All three players are fifth-year seniors.
Harley is the great-great nephew of Chic Harley, Ohio State’s first three-time All-American and sixth former Buckeye to have his number retired. Rob Harley has lettered each of the last two seasons, contributing mainly on special teams. Harley, who is from Elmhurst, Ill., is a marketing major and an OSU Scholar-Athlete.
Conroy is a native of Bay Village, Ohio, also has family ties to Ohio State. His father, Jim, played on the 1968 Buckeye squad that won the national championship. Last year, Conroy saw action in 10 games and earned his first letter. Conroy is a risk management and insurance major.
A product of Dublin Coffman High School, Winner has played at every position in the offensive line in his career at Ohio State. He began his career as a tackle, then moved to guard before seeing his first game action last season at center. Winner, a finance major, turned down several scholarship offers from other school coming out of high school, choosing instead to walk-on at Ohio State.
