Joey Holcomb enters his second season with the Buckeyes after being announced as an assistant coach on July 1, 2024.Â
Holcomb came to Columbus after one season as an assistant at South Carolina, where he coached the outfielders. He was part of coaching an offense that hit 101 home runs, walked 382 times, stole 66 bases, and scored 461 runs.
Prior to South Carolina, Holcomb was an assistant coach at Campbell for two seasons. In 2023, he guided a Camel offense that hit .318, which was ninth-best in the country. The Camels led the nation that season in on-base percentage (.439), were second in slugging percentage (.561), third in runs scored (587), and seventh in home runs (123). The team won Big South regular season and tournament titles and played in NCAA Regionals both of his seasons. In 2022, he helped the Camels to a program-record 118 home runs. Campbell was the only team in the nation that season to record over 100 home runs, 100 stolen bases and 100 hit by pitches.

Before his time at Campbell, Holcomb spent two seasons at NC State, where the Wolfpack reached the College World Series semifinals in 2021. He was the assistant offensive coach and worked with the catchers and outfielders. While there, he worked with eight MLB Draft picks and the 2020 Johnny Bench Award winner.
Holcomb spent seven seasons at UNC Greensboro as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, where he helped coach 16 MLB Draft picks.
Holcomb graduated from Huntingdon College in 2006, and was a coach there for four years following his graduation. Holcomb and his wife Brittany have three sons; Graham, Reed, and Parker.
