COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team hits the road this weekend for a series against St. Thomas in Mendota Heights, Minn. The Buckeyes (8-1-1, 8-1-1- WCHA) and Tommies (1-7-1, 0-6-0 WCHA) face off at 7 p.m. ET Saturday and 3 p.m. ET Sunday from the St. Thomas Ice Arena.
Both games of the series will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- The Buckeyes are coming off a hard fought series against Minnesota. Ohio State finished 0-1-1 against the Gophers in the top-ranked matchup.
- Jenn Gardiner leads the team with a 10-game point streak. The senior, who has tallied a point in each of the Buckeyes’ games this season, has recorded five goals and nine assists for 14 points this year.
- Sophie Jaques continues to pace Ohio State players with 15 points this season. She has tallied a team-high 10 goals and nation-leading five power play goals. The defenseman is tied for first in the country in goals per game (1.00).
- Emma Maltais has recorded a team-high 11 assists on the year, good for the most assists per game (1.10) in the conference. She is now tied for most career points in Buckeye history (170) and is nine assists away from matching the program record for career assists.
- The Buckeyes have earned a league-best .381 power play percentage. Ohio State has scored eight power play goals on 21 opportunities. Its power play percentage ranks second nationally.
- Ohio State is now ranked second in the national polls. The team is receiving one first-place vote in both the DCH/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
- The Buckeyes have seen strong goaltending from both junior Amanda Thiele and senior Raygan Kirk this season. Thiele owns a 6-1-0 record for the Buckeyes with 118 saves on the year. Kirk backstopped Ohio State to a shootout win against the Gophers last weekend and holds a 2-0-1 record and .900 save percentage.
- Graduate forward Paetyn Levis looks to become the 15th player in program history to join the century club. She is eight points away from 100 for her career, having scored 36 goals and added 56 assists for 92 points as a Buckeye.
Series History – Buckeyes vs. Tommies
- The Buckeyes earned an 8-1 and 6-2 sweep of the Tommies at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in the last meeting between the two teams.
- Ohio State played St. Thomas in its first games as a Division I program last season.
- The Buckeyes lead the all-time series with the Tommies, 4-0.
- Ohio State head coach Nadine Muzerall and St. Thomas head coach Joel Johnson coached together at Minnesota when Muzerall was an assistant coach and Johnson an associate head coach for the Gophers. Muzerall and Buckeye assistant coach Kelsey Cline also played for Johnson at Minnesota during their respective playing careers.
Jaques Named WCHA Defender of the Month
- Sophie Jaques closed out the month of October with a pair of WCHA awards.
- The graduate student earned Defender of the Week honors for her performance against Minnesota last weekend. She tallied three goals and eight blocked shots, helping the Buckeyes hold the Gophers to just 63 shots in the series.
- She picked up the conference’s Defender of the Month title after earning three weekly awards in the month of October.
- Jaques is currently one of 19 nominees of the AAU James E. Sullivan Award who has moved on to the voting round for the award. Voting is open to the public through Nov. 9. The award honors the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States.

Ohio State goes on a bye week following this weekend’s matchup against St. Thomas. The team returns to action Nov. 18-19 for a home series against Bemidji State. The first non-conference matchup for Ohio State will be against No. 4 Colgate on Nov. 22-23 in Columbus.
