Tim Hinton serves as the Executive Director for Football Relations / Special Assistant to the Head Coach and has served in that role since 2016. He joined the Buckeyes staff in 2012 and spent four seasons as the OSU’s tight ends/fullbacks coach. Hinton has more than three decades of experience at the high school and collegiate level. Â
With that, Hinton was honored with the Ohio’s Finest Award at the 2026 Ohio State Coaches’ Clinic, recognizing his long-standing impact on the game in Ohio. Â
Before arriving at Ohio State, Hinton spent 2010-11 coaching running backs at Notre Dame after serving at Cincinnati from 2004-09, where he coached running backs, linebackers and recruiting responsibilities under Brian Kelly and Mark Dantonio. His Cincinnati tenure came after an 11-year run as head coach at Marion Harding High School from 1993-03, where he led the program to five state playoff berths, five conference titles and the 1995 Ohio Division I co-Coach of the Year honor.Â
Hinton’s earlier coaching career included head-coaching stops at Zane Trace (1987-88) and Van Wert (1989), plus three seasons at Ohio University from 1990-92 coaching wide receivers and defensive linemen. He also spent two years as a graduate assistant at Ohio State from 1985-86, three seasons as a student-assistant and assistant coach at Wilmington from 1981-84, and three years as an assistant at Amanda-Clearcreek High School from 1978-80.Â
A Wilmington graduate, Hinton earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial education in 1982 and later completed a master’s degree in educational policy and leadership at Ohio State in 1987. Â
