Ed Terwilliger joined the Ohio State football staff in 2015 and serves as the program’s Director of High School Relations. During his time in Columbus, he has helped Ohio State consistently land elite recruiting classes.
Before arriving at Ohio State, Terwilliger built one of the most respected high school coaching careers in Ohio. He led the Olentangy program for 24 seasons, winning 138 games and guiding the Braves to eight playoff appearances, including a regional final run in 1999 and the school’s first Division I postseason berth in 2012. He also coached former Buckeye linebacker Joshua Perry from 2008 through 2011 and developed 100 players who went on to play college football.
Terwilliger’s coaching honors include Division III Coach of the Year, three Division II Coach of the Year awards in Central Ohio, Division I Central Ohio Coach of the Year and Ohio Capital Conference Coach of the Year. He was also an officer in the Ohio High School Coaches Association for 16 years, serving as president in 2004, and was inducted into the Central Ohio Coaches Hall of Fame in 2018.
A 1975 graduate of Nelsonville-York High School, Terwilliger played at Ohio University before beginning his coaching career in 1979. His early stops included assistant roles at Glouster Trimble, Westlake and Groveport before he took over at Olentangy in 1989. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University in 1980 and later completed a master’s degree in sport administration from Ashland University in 1988.
