NFL veteran assistant coach Billy Yates joined the Ohio State staff in March of 2025 and works as a defensive quality control coach.

Yates played along the offensive line for three NFL teams – the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns – during a seven-year pro career that included playing in 41 games and winning a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots.

He started his coaching career in the strength and conditioning area with Texas A&M and also worked at Bowling Green in between coaching fellowship stints with the Patriots in 2015 and the Detroit Lions in 2018 and 2019.

In 2020 he was an assistant offensive line coach with the Lions and from 2021-23 he was in the same position with the Patriots.
