Andy Howell is a veteran personnel executive who joined Ohio State in July 2026 as a college scout after 14 seasons in the NFL. Most recently, he spent the last 10 years with the Miami Dolphins, where he joined the organization in 2016 and was promoted to pro scout in 2018.Â
Howell joined the Dolphins after one year (2015) at Western Michigan, where he oversaw all aspects of the football recruiting department as the director of player personnel, including initial player evaluation, coordinating recruiting visits, arranging coaches’ recruiting schedules and management of social media accounts. Â
Prior to that, Howell spent two years (2013-14) with the New York Jets as a pro personnel intern, where he evaluated professional players, coordinated free agent workouts, created player profile tapes, and assisted with player database management. He also spent one season with the Cleveland Browns as a college scouting assistant in 2012 and was a training camp intern in the Browns scouting department in 2011. Â
Howell was a walk-on safety at the University of Kansas prior to earning his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Ohio University. He was a student assistant at Ohio, where he worked primarily with the defensive line and in the recruiting department. Â
A native of Avon Lake, Ohio, Howell and his wife, Tara, have a son, Liam, and a daughter, Lily. Â
