COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey senior Sophie Jaques has been named the National Player of the Month for March, the Hockey Commissioner’s Association announced Friday.
Playing in all five postseason games in March for the Buckeyes, Jaques only solidified her position as one of the top players in the NCAA this season. She recorded five points on three goals and two assists with nine blocked shots to help lead Ohio State to its first national championship in program history.
Probably most notable was her performance in Ohio State’s WCHA Final Faceoff championship game against Minnesota on March 6. She scored both the game-tying and overtime game-winning goal to secure the Buckeyes’ second Final Faceoff title. She was named to the All-Tournament team and the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
In the Buckeyes’ national title run, she tallied two points in the quarterfinal game against Quinnipiac to send her team to the Frozen Four. The Toronto, Ontario native recorded a +3 overall in the NCAA tournament.
The 2022 AHCA First Team All-America ended the season with 59 points, tying the most single-season points by any Ohio State player in program history. She also recorded the most single-season points by a defenseman nationally in in two decades.
