Six Buckeyes Earn All-Big Ten Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State once again dominated the All-Big Ten awards as six Buckeyes earned either first or second team honors. Cannon Kingsley was named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Year and director of tennis Ty Tucker was named the Coach of the Year.
Kingsley earns Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. He is the fourth Buckeye to claim the award multiple times. He also earned first team honors for the third consecutive year.
Graduates Matej Vocel and Jake Van Emburgh as well as junior James Trotter and sophomore JJ Tracy joined Kingsley on the first team while Robert Cash earned second team honors.
Kingsley has had another tremendous season. He played in just four collegiate matches in fall but spent the majority of his fall competing in professional events where he reached the semi-finals in four different tournaments and finaled at the ITF M15 in Ithaca, N.Y. and the ITF M15 in Lubbock, Texas. This spring, he has a record of 15-3, including 11-2 at the No. 1 spot, and has nine wins over ranked opponents. In doubles, he has a record of 15-1.
Vocel, who was a unanimous first team selection, has been the Buckeyes most consistent player the entire year. He started with a bang and never slowed. He has been ranked in the Top 10 of the singles rankings and No. 1 in doubles rankings all season. He started by winning the singles draw of the ITA All-American Championship and then reaching the semifinals of the ITA Fall Championships. In doubles, he and partner Robert Cash won the title at both events. This spring, he is 16-1 in singles and 17-3 in doubles and has a combined record of 57-9. He has 15 wins over ranked opponents this season.
Tracy, who also was a unanimous selection, was dominant in singles last year en route to being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He has continued that run this year as he is 16-0 this spring and a team-best 31-4 overall. He also has a 15-1 doubles record this spring and is 17-5 overall. Tracy is now a two-time first team All-Big Ten honoree.
Trotter has a record of 18-5 on the season in singles and 16-10 in doubles. He has been ranked in the Top 50 in singles all season and Top 12 in doubles. He and partner Justin Boulais were runner-up to teammates Vocel and Cash at the ITA All-American Championships and have been ranked as high as No. 2 this season. Trotter is also the team’s Sportsmanship Honoree.
Van Emburgh, joined the team in January, is 10-3 in singles play. He has played primarily in the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots. He is undefeated in Big Ten play at 4-0.
Cash has been ranked No. 1 in doubles the entire season. He leads the team with 37 doubles wins on the year as he is 37-5 and is 13-4 in singles play. He has 13 wins against ranked doubles teams this year. For Cash, this is the first All-Big Ten honors of his career.
Tucker earns his 15th Big Ten Coach of the Year honor. The team won its 15th consecutive Big Ten regular season title under Tucker which does not include last year’s East Division title. Tucker has led the team to a 22-2 record this season and now has 655 career victories.
