Sheldon Named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week


COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference released its weekly women’s basketball awards on Monday. Junior guard Jacy Sheldon was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week following her play against Michigan State and at Minnesota last week.

Sheldon enjoyed the best week of her career as the Buckeyes went 2-0, beating Michigan State at home and Minnesota on the road. Sheldon averaged 32.5 points, 6.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last week as she shot a collective 22-of-32 (.688) from the floor, 4-of-5 (.800) from long range and 17-of-18 (.944) from the free throw line.

Against Michigan State, Sheldon scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-15 (.800) shooting, adding 2-of-2 from long range and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Her 33 points was the most by a Big Ten player in a conference game this season. She was the first in the game to double figures, doing so with 7:28 remaining in the first half, as she tied her season-high six assists (one shy of her career-high) and grabbed a season-high six rebounds. Against Minnesota, Sheldon scored 32 points on 10-of-17 (.588) shooting, adding two triples and going 10-of-11 from the charity stripe to tie her career-high in free throws made. She was the first in the game again to double figures, reaching 10 points just 6:29 into the game, as she made her first five field goal attempts. Sheldon tied her career-high seven assists.

This season, Sheldon leads the Ohio State offense with 20.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She is shooting 55.1 percent from the floor, 44.4 from three-point range and .848 from the charity stripe. Prior to Saturday’s game, Sheldon ranked in the top six in the Big Ten in ppg and FG% and in the top 30 in the country in points, field goals made and points per game. Sheldon currently has 977 career points.
