PEORIA, Ariz. – Freshman Aneka Seumanutafa earned medalist honors with a 12-under 204 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational Monday at Westbrook Village Golf Club. As a team, the Buckeyes finished 10th after tying for the second-best final-round score with a 5-under 283.
Playing in only her second collegiate tournament, Seumanutafa closed the tournament with a career-best 5-under 67 to take the win. For the tournament, the Emmittsburg, Md., native had 17 birdies, which were the most of any player in the field. She also tied for the best in the field in par-4 scoring at 5-under and ranked second in par-5 scoring at 8-under. Seumanutafa’s 54-hole total of 204 is the Buckeyes’ lowest since Jaclyn Lee shot a 197 in winning the same tournament a year ago.
“Aneka had a very solid week managing herself very well and taking advantage of her strength – ball striking,” Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach, said. “She also had solid wedge play which gave her many birdie opportunities. I’m so happy for her steady performance. I believe there will be many good days ahead.”
