Ryan Earns Win No. 300 with 23-12 Victory Over No. 21 Lehigh

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State (6-1) earned career dual win No. 300 for Tom Ryan, head coach of the Buckeyes, with a 23-12 victory over No. 21 Lehigh Tuesday at the 2022 Collegiate Duals at the New Orleans Convention Center.

The Buckeyes finished third in their pool with a 2-1 record over the two-day event. Ohio State defeated Lock Haven before a loss to Northern Iowa Monday.

Ryan has won 191 dual matches as head coach of the Buckeyes over the last 18 seasons. He started his career at Hofstra, where he built a record of 109-82-2 over 11 seasons. Ryan is 191-64 with the Buckeyes.

Ethan Smith won three matches over the last two days to pace the Buckeyes. Freshman Nic Bouzakis won his two bouts Monday and was awarded a win by forfeit Tuesday to also go 3-0.

There was nothing on the scoreboard after the first period. Bailey scored first with an escape midway through the second period, the only score in the second. Bailey added five points with a near fall and riding time in the third to win by decision, 6-0.

141 | No. 18 Dylan D’Emilio (OSU) def. Malyke Hines (LU) | D, 3-1                  

The first takedown of the match went to D’Emilio with just under two and a half minutes gone in the first. D’Emilio allowed just a point the rest of the way and added a point for riding time to win by decision, 3-1.

149 | No. 3 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. Max Brignola (LU) | MD, 10-2                  

Sasso scored first with a takedown to take a 2-0 lead into the second period. With an escape and a takedown, Sasso built a 5-0 lead through two periods. With a couple takedowns in the third, Sasso won by major decision, 10-2.

157 | Gavin Brown (OSU) def. Manzona Bryant (LU) | D, 6-3                           

Brown managed the first takedown for a 2-1 lead after the first. Brown added a point with an escape to start the second and finished the period up 3-1. Brown added a two-point near fall and with riding time, won by decision, 6-3.

Wilcox scored first with a takedown and led 2-1 after the first. Humphreys led 3-2 after the second and added an escape to make it 4-2 early in the third. He finished off the match to win by decision, 5-3.

The Buckeyes scored first with a takedown and built a lead of 6-2 after one. Smith added a pair of takedowns in the second to hold a 10-3 advantage with two minutes to go. He finished off the match to win by major decision, 13-4.

With an aggressive start, Romero got the first takedown of the match. Leading 2-1, Romero got the escape followed by a takedown for a 5-1 lead in period two. Romero added a takedown in the second to lead 7-3 early in the third. The Buckeyes finished off the match to win by decision, 10-4.

197 | No. 4 Michael Beard (LU) def. No. 22 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) | D, 5-3

Beard struck first with a takedown near the edge of the mat for a 2-0 lead with under a minute gone in the first. Up 3-1 in the second, Beard added a takedown for a 5-1 lead. With a couple escapes, Hoffman cut the lead to 5-3. Beard did not allow another score to win by decision, 5-3.

HWT | No. 25 Nathan Taylor (LU) def. Mike Misita (OSU) | D, 6-2                                        

Misita put two points on the board with a takedown midway through the first but Taylor scored on a reversal to tie it at 2-all. A Taylor escape in the second sent the match to the third in favor of Lehigh, 3-2. Taylor added a takedown in the third to win by decision, 6-2.
