COLUMBUS, Ohio – Quinn Preston, a senior forward on the No. 15 Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been selected the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday. The Trenton, Mich., native had a hat trick, four points and a +3 mark against then-No. 13 Notre Dame.

Preston had a career night Saturday vs. the Irish as the Buckeyes won 4-1. He opened the scoring with a power play goal at 3:18 of the first, broke a 1-1 tie with 40 seconds left in the second, had the primary assist on Georgii Merkulov’s goal that gave Ohio State a two-goal cushion (3-1) 4:11 into the third and pushed the advantage to 4-1 when he completed his hat trick at 16:21. He was +2 in the game and blocked two shots. Friday, when the Buckeyes fell in overtime, Preston was +1, on the ice for the gametying goal late in the third.

It was Preston’s first career hat trick and the first game for a Buckeye with three-plus goals since Carson Meyer scored four March 6, 2020. The four points were a career best for Preston and the Buckeyes’ first four-point game of the season. He had four two-goal games and four three-point outings in his career before breaking both marks Saturday. This year, Preston has six goals, seven assists and 13 points, with a +8 mark.

This is the fifth conference weekly honor for a Buckeye this season, with the first four earned by freshmen – Jakub Dobeš is a two-time winner, with Mason Lohrei and Georgii Merkulov also recognized.

Ohio State (16-7-1, 8-5-1-0-1-1/2nd B1G) will hit the road for its next two series, starting this weekend at Michigan State. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes and Spartans split a series in Columbus earlier this season. The games will be streamed through B1G Plus and can be heard on Ohio State Radio. GAMEDAY LINKS
