Ohio State Wraps up Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team hosted the Buckeye Invitational in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center Friday through Sunday. The Buckeyes were joined by players from Kentucky, Michigan, Penn State and Xavier for the hidden dual style event.
The Buckeyes combined for an 8-2 doubles record and were 9-10 in singles in the invitational.
Over the three days, the doubles duo of Danielle Willson and Madeline Atway led the Buckeyes with a 3-0 mark, while Kathleen Jones and Kollie Allen teamed up for two victories. Allen, Atway and Dani Schoenly all notched 2-1 singles records to lead the way.
Graduate transfer Akanksha Bhan posted a doubles victory with Shelly Bereznyak Saturday in her first match as a Buckeye. Willson, also a graduate transfer, was competing for the first time in the Scarlet and Gray, with three doubles wins and a singles victory.
On day one Friday, the Buckeyes posted two doubles wins and five singles victories. Willson, Atway and Allen all won in singles and doubles, while Bereznyak and Schoenly posted singles victories and Lucia Marzal notched a win in doubles.
Saturday, Ohio State was 4-0 in doubles play. Marzal led the Buckeyes with a singles and a doubles victory, where she paired with Schoenly. The tandems of Willson and Atway, Jones and Allen and Bhan and Bereznyak all notched doubles wins.
On the final day, the Buckeyes posted two doubles victories and three singles wins. Atway and Allen both won in singles and doubles, as each rallied for a three-set singles win. Schoenly won in straight sets in her singles match. Atway was paired with Willson in doubles and Allen played with Kathleen Jones. Both doubles tandems won 6-4.
