Ohio State Women’s Volleyball Ranked 16th in the CSTV/AVCA National Poll – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team has been ranked 16th in the College Sports Television (CSTV)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll released today. The Buckeyes finished the 2006 season ranked 16th in the final poll with a 25-8 overall record. Ohio State finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference with a 13-7 mark and advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals.
The Buckeyes return four starters from last season, All-American middle blocker Danielle Meyer (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio), outside hitters Briana McCarthy (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Anna Szerszen (Conflans Ste Hne, France) and libero Ami Stevens (Sr., Centerburg, Ohio). OSU has an outstanding freshmen class that was ranked ninth nationally by Volleyball Magazine. The class includes setter Betsy Hone (Fr., Celina, Ohio), outside hitters Kaila Calhoun (Fr., Elkhart, Ind.) and Katie Dull (Fr., Solon, Ohio), middle blockers Allie Schwarzwalder (Fr., North Royalton, Ohio) and Kristi Hunter (Fr., Roblin, Manitoba, Canada) and liberos Susan Halverson (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Carly Syms (Fr., Elyria, Ohio). Additional squad members include setter Ashley Hughes (So., Carroll, Ohio), middle blocker Kristen Dozier (So., Sandy Spring, Md.) and libero Laura Kastein (Jr., Marysville, Ohio), a transfer from Duquesne.
Ohio State began preseason practice last week in preparation for opening the season Aug. 24 at the Nike/Active Ankle Classic in Muncie, Ind. The Buckeyes will face Southeast Missouri Friday at 5 p.m. OSU then plays Maine at 10 a.m. Saturday and host Ball State at 7:30 p.m.
