Ohio State women’s basketball player Courtney Coleman was named a regional NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention pick and a finalist for the Kodak/WBCA All-America team. The All-America team will be announced April 4 in Atlanta, site of the 2003 NCAA Women’s Final Four.
Coleman, a senior forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, averages 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing and was named to both the coaches and media 2003 Second Team All-Big Ten squads. A three-time second-team all-conference selection, Coleman has been ranked either first or second nationally all year in the category of field-goal percentage; currently, she owns a second-place .676 (175-259) shooting average.
Coleman entered the Ohio State 1,000-point club Feb. 13,2002, at Illinois and has accumulated a total of 1,515 points, which ranks ninth among Buckeye leaders. Coleman also currently is the best shooter in Ohio State history with a .606 (587-969) average from the field. A finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which is awarded to the outstanding male and female senior NCAA Division I basketball player annually, Coleman also is ranked fifth with 753 career rebounds and is tied for the 13th spot in Buckeye history with 144 total steals.
The Ohio State women’s basketball team is coming off a run to the championship game of the 2003 Big Ten Tournament with wins over No. 5-seed Michigan State (71-55) and No.1-seed Penn State (72-61) before falling to No. 3-seed Purdue, 67-65, Monday night in the final contest of the event. The Buckeyes are under first-year head coach Jim Foster and have put together a 21-9 record, which is the best for an Ohio State squad since the 1992-93 team went 28-4 and were national runners-up. Additionally, the Buckeyes were 14-0 at home for the first time since the 1992-93 team defended its home court with a 16-0 record in Columbus.
