Ohio State Voted No. 1 in Preseason Poll

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team checks in at No. 1 overall in the Preseason DCU/ Division I Women’s Ice Hockey Poll announced Monday. The poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country.

Last season, Ohio State closed the year by winning the program’s first NCAA title. The Buckeyes earned a 3-2 win over Minnesota Duluth in the team’s first national championship game appearance. Ohio State finished the year with a program record 32 wins.

This year marks the first time Ohio State has earned the top spot in the preseason poll. The Buckeyes earned their first No. 1 ranking in program history following their 2022 WCHA Final Faceoff championship win. The 3-2 overtime victory over Minnesota in the conference tournament title game also earned the team the top seed in the NCAA tournament.

Overall, four WCHA teams were earned rankings in the preseason poll. Minnesota follows Ohio State at No. 2 while Wisconsin and Minnesota Duluth come in at third and fifth, respectively. Two of the Buckeyes’ three non-conference opponents earned rankings as Colgate was voted sixth and Cornell was voted 12th.

Ohio State is set to open the 2022-23 season on the road with a series at Minnesota State Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The team hosts its home opener Oct. 7-8 against St. Cloud State at the OSU Ice Rink.
