Ohio State, Penn State Meet In Regular Season Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2021 Ohio State men’s lacrosse regular season has reached its final weekend. And the Buckeyes will have the chance to finish it on a high note when they host Penn State on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Ohio Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Jay Alter and Myles Jones on the call.

The Creator’s Trophy
- A win on Saturday would secure the Creator’s Trophy for Ohio State and bring it home to Columbus.
- The trophy was established in 2012 between Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan – the three Big Ten schools that sponsored lacrosse at the time.
- The coaches from Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State came together and fundraised for the Creator’s trophy prior to the formation of the Big Ten conference for lacrosse.
- The trophy’s design includes three pillars to represent the three institutions: Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan
- The team with the best head to head record amongst the three teams takes ownership of the trophy each year.
Limited Fan Attendance Permitted
- For the second time this season, the Buckeyes will welcome back fans to Ohio Stadium outside of player/staff guests.
- Ticket availability is extremely limited so fans can click HERE prior to the game to reserve their mobile tickets.
- Tickets will be free, but to reserve your tickets you will be asked to log into your Ticket Master account.
- Fans may request up to four tickets for each game until the public ticket allotment has been exhausted
- All fans will be asked to share contact information in case contact tracing needs to be conducted after the event.
- All guests and staff will be asked to remain six feet apart.
- In areas where the department anticipates lines forming, there will be stickers placed six feet apart on the floor/pavement.
- Seating areas will be numbered by row and seat. Guests will receive a reserved ticket and will sit in assigned seating pods spaced 6-feet apart.
- All guests and event staff will wear face coverings at all times while attending events at Ohio State’s athletic venues and facilities.
Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State enters the final weekend of the regular season with a 4-5 overall record. It is ranked No. 15 in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- The Buckeyes have clinched no worse than a fourth-place finish in the Big Ten standings and will host a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal game the weekend of May 1-2.
- Ohio State’s top three scorers all come from the attack unit: junior Jack Myers (27-10-37), graduate student Tre Leclaire (21-4-25) and senior Jackson Reid (10-9-19).
- The Buckeyes’ starting attack has accounted for 55 percent of the team’s total goal production.
- Graduate student Ryan Terefenko continues to do it all in the midfield. He has four goals, one assist, 20 ground balls and has taken 11 face-offs.
- Jeff Henrick, a captain and graduate student like Terefenko and Leclaire, leads the team with 10 caused turnovers. He’s tops amongst non-faceoff specialists with 31 ground balls.
- Justin Inacio’s .566 winning percentage at the X is tops in the Big Ten. He’s won 11 or more face-offs in every game that he’s played in season.
- Alec Van de Bovenkamp has started each of the last six games in goal. He has a 12.12 goals-against average, .435 save percentage and 57 total stops.
Senior Day 2021
- Prior to Saturday’s game, Ohio State will honor 12 seniors. The group has been a part of 41 wins, two Big Ten Tournament appearances and the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Final Four and National Championship Game.
- They have totaled more than 60 academic honors and counting and have volunteered more than 300 hours in the community.
- The seniors who will be honored are: Omari DeBerry, Dayton Fisher, Jeff Henrick, Griffin Hughes, Justin Inacio, Tre Leclaire, Jackson Reid, Evan Riss, Colby Smith, Ryan Terefenko, Alec Van de Bovenkamp and Eric Wenz.
Ohio State/Penn State Storylines
- Saturday’s game features the top two face-off specialists in the Big Ten.
- Justin Inacio ranks first at .566 (124-of-219) which Penn State’s Gerard Aeceri is second (106-of-188, .564).
- Ohio State head coach Nick Myers and Penn State associate head coach Peter Toner were teammates together at Springfield College in 2000 and 2001.
- Myers (head coach) and Toner (assistant coach) were on the staff that won a gold medal at the 2016 Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championship
Mr. Reliable
- Graduate student and captain Jeff Henrick has played in every game during his Ohio State career – 64 to be exact.
- He is five games away from tying J.T. Blubaugh for the program record for games played with 69.
- Teammate and fellow graduate student Tre Leclaire has played in 63 of 64 games over his career.
