Ohio State Overpowers Baylor 4-0, Ascends to 12-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s No. 1 ranked men’s tennis team continued to roll on Tuesday night at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center with a dominant 4-0 win over Baylor. The Buckeyes have now beat four top-10 teams in consecutive matches.

Ohio State swept the doubles point and carried their momentum into singles by winning the first set on all six courts.

The Buckeye brigade was led by No. 9 JJ Tracy and No. 75 Robert Cash, as the two went 2-0 on the night. Both Cash and No. 28 James Trotter stay perfect in duals, reaching 10-0 and 11-0 respectively.

Doubles

  • After losing the doubles point in the last two matches, Ohio State raced out of the gate on Tuesday, winning the first nine combined games on the three courts. It took just 21 minutes to win the doubles point.
  • Cash and Justin Boulais got back to their winning ways on court two with a convincing 6-0 victory.
  • Jack Anthrop and Tracy secured their first win as a duo for the Buckeyes in a 6-0 blitz over Baylor’s Marko Miladinović and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi.

Singles

  • Tracy continued to shut out the Bears gaining a 6-0 first set win on court two. The Buckeye finished second on court two and secured the win over Marko Miladinović 6-0, 6-3.
  • Trotter closed out Baylor foe Luc Koenig 6-1, 6-4, in little time to secure the first Buckeye singles win of the day on court four.
  • Cash continued to dominate on court six this year. The Buckeye got the first break against Baylor’s Ethan Muza and won the first set 6-3. He then stormed his way through the second set with an impressive 6-0 win.
  • 41 Alexander Bernard, Anthrop, and Boulais all won their first set against the Bears.
  • Boulais started off with a 6-2 first set win on court one, then found himself in a battle in the second set against Baylor’s No. 177 Tadeas Paroulek.
  • Bernard pulled ahead of Baylor’s Zsombor Velcz with a 6-4 first set tally and was all square 3-3 in the second set as the Buckeyes clinched.
  • Anthrop also won his first set 6-4 over the Bears Grassi Mazzuchi and was ahead in the second set 3-2 for the Buckeyes.

  • Ohio State looks forward to a rematch with Illinois in the opening round of the ITA Indoor National Team Championship on Friday. The match is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at the XS Tennis Village in downtown Chicago. The Buckeyes defeated the Illini 6-1 on Jan. 22, in Columbus.
