 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1/1 Ohio State women’s hockey team kicks off the 2022-23 season this weekend with a series at No. RV/RV Minnesota State. The Buckeyes take on the Mavericks at 4 p.m. ET Friday and 1 p.m. ET Saturday at the Mayo Clinic HSEC in Mankato, Minn.

Buckeyes in a Nutshell

  • For the first time in program history, Ohio State enters the season as the No. 1 team in the country. The Buckeyes earned the top ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Polls.
  • Ohio State is currently on a 10-game win streak, its longest in program history. The streak started on Feb. 12 at Bemidji State.
  • Captaining the Buckeyes this season are graduates Paetyn Levis, Emma Maltais and Gabby Rosenthal. Maltais will don the “C” for the second time while Levis and Rosenthal will serve as alternate captains for the second season.
  • Joining the captains for their fifth and final year of eligibility are defenseman duo Madison Bizal and Sophie Jaques. The two combined for 86 points last season while helping the Buckeyes maintain the best power play in the country.
  • Junior Amanda Thiele returns as the 2021-22 WCHA goaltending champion. She finished last season with a 1.27 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.
  • Ohio State head coach Nadine Muzerall is in her seventh season at the helm of the Buckeyes. She currently holds a 127-63-17 at Ohio State.
  • The Buckeyes’ 2022-23 roster features players from three countries and nine states.
  • Jaques, Maltais and Thiele were each selected to the WCHA’s preseason all-conference team, making up half of the players on the list.
  • Joining Muzerall on the bench this season are associate head coach Peter Elander and assistant coach Kelsey Cline.
  • Following the season-opener at Minnesota State, the Buckeyes will play their home opener against St. Cloud State on Oct. 7-8 at the OSU Ice Rink.
