** Parking Note: Due to the football game on Saturday, women’s hockey fans are advised to arrive prior to 1 p.m. and park in the Lane Avenue Garage. The Lane Avenue Garage has limited capacity and will close to arriving fans at 1 p.m. Those arriving after 1 p.m. can park in any day-of-game lot, with the closest to the rink being the Fawcett Center and Riverside lots. Parking is $20.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team (6-2-0, 6-2-0 WCHA) is back on home ice this weekend, hosting St. Cloud State (2-3-1, 0-3-1 WCHA) Oct. 29-30. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. ET Friday and 2 p.m. ET Saturday.
Admission to all women’s hockey games at the OSU Ice Rink is free. Both games this weekend will be streamed on B1G+ and Friday’s game will feature a recognition of Buckeye women’s hockey alumni.
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State sits atop the conference standings with 19 points on the year with six wins and two losses. The Buckeyes, who are coming off two losses at Wisconsin last weekend, sit ahead of the Badgers in the WCHA standings by three points.
- The Buckeyes remain ranked second in this week’s USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls for the third consecutive week. The No. 2 ranking ties the program-high which was also achieved on Feb. 17, 2021.
- Jenna Buglioni leads the team with 13 points and eight assists on the year. The sophomore ranks 10th nationally in assists per game (1.00) and 12th in points per game (1.625).
- Ohio State suffered a sweep to Wisconsin last weekend in a highly contested battle against the top-ranked Badgers. The loss ended the team’s program-best season-opening streak of six games.
Notable Notes
- Scoring both Buckeye goals against Wisconsin last weekend, Gabby Rosenthal leads the team with seven goals on the year. The senior has scored against three of the team’s four opponents so far this season.
- In addition to leading the team in points and assists, Jenna Buglioni has registered a point in each of Ohio State’s games this season. The sophomore is tied for second in the conference in points (13) and fourth in points per game (1.625).
- The Buckeyes’ line of Rosenthal, Buglioni and Jenn Gardiner has proven to be impactful this season, having scored 23 of the team’s 74 points on the year and 16 of the 30 goals. Gardiner is second to Buglioni in assists with seven.
- Ohio State is outscoring its opponents 30-10 on the year. The team holds a 294-187 shot advantage over its opponents.
- The Buckeyes are one of four teams in the country with a perfect 1.000 penalty kill percentage. The team has killed off 22 penalties on the year, including two 5-on-3 situations against Wisconsin.
- Led by Sophie Jaques with three goals on the year, the Buckeyes are second in the nation in scoring defense.
- Goaltender Andrea Braendli, who is 4-2-0 on the year, is ninth in the country with a .955 save percentage and 1.20 goals against average.
History vs. St. Cloud State
- The Buckeyes are 49-30-10 (.606) in the all-time series with the Huskies.
- This weekend’s series marks the first time since Feb. 21-22, 2020 that the two teams will play each other after the series last season set for Feb. 19-20, 2021 was canceled.
- Ohio State has swept five of the last six series against St. Cloud State.
Around the WCHA
- Minnesota and Wisconsin are on the road this weekend, as they meet Bemidji State and Minnesota State, respectively.
- Thomas visits RIT for a non-conference matchup and Minnesota-Duluth has a bye week.
Captaining the Buckeyes
- Paetyn Levis, Gabby Rosenthal and Liz Schepers captain the Buckeyes this season. Schepers will don the captain’s C while Levis and Rosenthal will serve as alternate captains.
- Schepers is a two-time captain as she was also named captain for the 2020-21 campaign.
- Levis and Rosenthal are in their senior seasons while Schepers is a graduate student and playing her fifth season for the Buckeyes.
