COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3/3 Ohio State women’s basketball team (16-0, 5-0 B1G) hosts RV/RV Illinois (14-2, 4-1 B1G) on Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET matinee. The game will be broadcast live on B1G+.
Sunday is youth day, featuring a halftime scrimmage and a free post-game clinic (details/register HERE). The Buckeyes will also recognize the Land On A Cure Foundation at halftime.
- Ohio State is off to its best start in program history with a 16-0 overall record and is 5-0 in the Big Ten.
- OSU is coming off a win at Minnesota on Thursday night by an 83-71 margin. The Buckeyes used a 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter, taking a lead that wouldn’t be relinquished after trailing by as many as 10 during the third quarter.
- Taylor Mikesell led all scorers with 22 points, while Rikki Harris had a career-high 19 and Taylor Thierry grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
- Illinois is off to a strong 14-2 start to the season and is 4-1 in conference play under Shauna Green in her first season at Illinois.
- The Fighting Illini enter the game on a seven-game win streak, including a 90-86 win over then No. 12/10 Iowa on New Year’s Day. Their lone conference loss was at then No. 5/4 Indiana by a 65-61 mark on Dec. 4.
- Illinois has three players averaging double figures this season in Makira Cook (18.6 ppg), Adalia McKenzie (16.3 ppg) and Genesis Bryant (14.6 ppg) with Cook and McKenzie being transfers. Kendall Bostic is averaging nearly a double-double per game with 9.2 ppg and 10.1 rpg.
- Ohio State leads 54-20 in the all-time series against Illinois, including the last five meetings. The Buckeyes are 27-5 when facing the Fighting Illini in Columbus.
- Last season, OSU claimed a 90-69 win on Jan. 6 in Columbus and an 86-67 decision in Champaign on Feb. 14.
