COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will host ACC power Louisville in this year’s Big Ten ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game is set for Thursday, Dec. 5 at Value City Arena. Tip time and TV designation will be announced at a later date.
This will be just the third meeting all-time between the two programs. The previous two meetings have both been great games. The first matchup came as part of the Women’s Sports Foundation Classic at Value City Arena on Dec. 14, 2001. The Buckeyes shot over 53 percent in the contest but the Cardinals were able to erase a seven-point second-half deficit to come away with a 67-66 victory.
The second meeting came two years ago in the Countdown to Columbus event on Nov. 12, 2017 at Nationwide Arena. Playing at the site of that season’s Final Four and in front of nearly 10,000 people, All-Americans Kelsey Mitchell and Asia Durr put on a show. Mitchell, who was celebrating her 22nd birthday, led the Buckeyes with 26 points and eight assists and made a clutch free throw with five seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. But Durr took over in the extra session, finishing with a school-record 47 points and pulling the Cards to a 95-90 victory.
Last year in the challenge, the Buckeyes took down North Carolina 76-69 in Columbus to snap a six-game losing streak in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Overall, Ohio State is 3-9 in the 12 years of the challenge.
Louisville is coming off a 32-4 campaign that saw it claim a share of the ACC regular season crown and earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Cardinals rolled at home over Nebraska 85-68 in their Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup last season.
