Ohio State Faces Virginia Tech on Monday in Elite Eight in Seattle

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12/12 Ohio State women’s basketball team (28-7, 12-6 B1G) will face No. 4/5 Virginia Tech (30-4, 14-4 ACC) in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament on Monday in Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Wash. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET in a game broadcast on ESPN, Westwood One and locally on 97.1 FM.

Ohio State enters the Elite Eight matchup with top-seeded Virginia Tech with a 28-7 overall record after earning a 73-61 win against second-seeded UConn in the Sweet 16 on Saturday.
This is the Buckeyes’ first Elite Eight appearance since 1993. Ohio State’s win snapped UConn’s Division I record 16-straight Elite Eight appearances.
Ohio State had 13 steals while forcing 25 Huskie turnovers. Cotie McMahon led the Buckeye offense with 23 points, while Jacy Sheldon (17) and Taylor Thierry (11) also reached double figures.
Virginia Tech enters the Elite Eight with a 30-4 overall record and a 14-4 record in ACC play. The Hokies are riding a 14-game win streak dating back to January.
VT earned a 73-64 win against fourth-seeded Tennessee in the Sweet 16 to advance to the program’s first-ever Elite Eight. Georgia Amoore led a trio of Virginia Tech players in double figures with 29 points. Kayana Traylor (14) and Elizabeth Kitley (12) also scored in double digits.
Virginia Tech won the ACC Tournament Championship by beating Louisville 75-67 on March 5.
This season, Virginia Tech has four players averaging double figures.
Virginia Tech’s road to the Elite Eight started with a 58-33 win against Chattanooga in the first round and a 72-60 win against South Dakota in the second round before the Sweet 16 matchup.
Ohio State and Virginia Tech have met only once previously with the Hokies earning the 81-73 win at the West Palm Beach Invitational on Dec. 21, 2018. That game also took place at a neutral site, but the teams have not previously met in the postseason.
