COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team concludes its regular-season road schedule this weekend at Bemidji State. The Buckeyes (22-5-0, 18-5-0 WCHA) meet the Beavers (10-15-3, 7-15-3 WCHA) at 7 p.m. ET Friday and 4 p.m. ET Saturday from the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. Both games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State enters the matchup 3-0 since leaving Columbus last week. The team swept Minnesota State last weekend with a 5-0 and 7-1 win in Mankato, Minn. before heading to St. Cloud State for a Tuesday afternoon game. The Buckeyes took care of business in St. Cloud, winning 6-2, to improve to 4-0 in their last four road games.
- With a WCHA points percentage of .783, the Buckeyes are at the top of the conference with four games to play in the regular season. Minnesota follows with a points percentage of .778 and Wisconsin is in third (.739).
- Ohio State is rated No. 2 in the national polls this week. The team earned 164 votes, and three first-place votes, in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The team is receiving 137 votes in the USCHO.com poll, with two first-place votes in its favor.
- Sophie Jaques continues to lead the Buckeyes in points (47) and assists (31). Paetyn Levis, Gabby Rosenthal and Liz Schepers, all Ohio State captains this season, join Jaques with a team-high 16-goals this year.
- Ohio State returns to the OSU Ice Rink next weekend to face No. 3 Wisconsin. The Buckeyes and Badgers face off on Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 to close out the regular season.
Notable Notes
- Scoring four goals in the Buckeyes’ Tuesday afternoon matchup against St. Cloud State, Liz Schepers tied the season record for goals in a single game. She is the sixth NCAA player, and third in the WCHA, to notch four goals in a game this year.
- Schepers has recorded a point in 17 of the last 18 games for Ohio State.
- Amanda Thiele continues to pace WCHA goaltenders with a .940 save percentage this year. With a season record of 10-2-0, she ranks second in the country in win percentage (.833).
- Sophie Jaques is first in the country in power play goals (9), second in points per game (1.74) and third in assists per game (1.15) as a defenseman.
- Along with its impressive offensive performance this season, Ohio State has shut down its opponents on defense with 15 games of fewer than 20 shots allowed.
- Ohio State has recorded the second-most wins in program history with 21 on the year. This year marks the fifth 20-win season for the Buckeyes and fourth in the last five years.
- Twenty-two Ohio State players, including Thiele in goal, have recorded a point this season. Nineteen have tallied a goal for the team after 27 games this season.
Buckeye Record Watch
- Sophie Jaques took the Ohio State record for points in a single season by a defenseman last weekend against Minnesota State. She has surpassed Tessa Bonhomme’s 2007-08 record (45) by two points.
- Jaques is four points shy of 100 for her career (96). Should she hit that milestone, she would become just the third Ohio State defenseman to reach the century mark.
- Liz Schepers is the Buckeye record holder for career games played with 159 and counting.
- With 68 assists for her career, Schepers is tied for the ninth-most career helpers by a Buckeye.
- Ohio State has already seen unprecedented success in its point production this season, breaking program records for goals (135), assists (226) and points (361) this season.
