
No. 9 Ohio State Earns Second Rutgers Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 Ohio State women’s volleyball team (24-5, 14-5 Big Ten) earned its second sweep of the season (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) against Rutgers (8-22, 0-19 Big Ten) on Wednesday evening in Piscataway.
How it Happened
Ohio State opened scoring and used a 4-0 run to get out to an early 8-2 lead. The teams traded points before the Buckeyes extended their lead to 15-6 at the media timeout with a 5-1 run. Rutgers got as close as six points as late as 22-16, but OSU scored the final three points of set to earn a 25-16 set win on a kill from Gabby Gonzales.
Rutgers scored first in the second set as the set was close to begin but four unanswered points by the Buckeyes gave them a 7-4 lead. Ohio State maintained more than a one-point until Rutgers trimmed the OSU lead to 15-14 with a 5-2 run. The Buckeyes held the 21-19 advantage and finished the set with four-straight points, sealing the 25-19 set win on a dump from Mac Podraza.
OSU scored first and the teams were tied at four early. The Buckeyes had the next four points to take an 8-4 lead and later scored three-straight to take a 13-7 lead and force a Scarlet Knights timeout. An ace from Meghan McCann prompted another Rutgers timeout as OSU held the 19-13 advantage. Ohio State secured the sweep with a 25-17 in the third set on a Rutgers attack error.

Match Notes
- This is the third time this season that Ohio State has hit better than .400 in a match – the second time doing so against Rutgers.
- Rylee Rader was the first in the match to double-figure kills, doing so midway through the second set, and reaching 10 kills for the 13th time this season. She totaled 12 kills.
- Jenaisya Moore reached 10 kills for the third time this season, totaling a season-high 14 kills to lead all players.
- Kylie Murr totaled a match-high 12 digs, reaching double figures for the 10th-straight match.
- Gabby Gonzales was the third Buckeye and player in the match to reach 10 kills, doing so for the 23rd match and 14th-straight match this season. She finished with 13 kills.
- Hannah Gruensfelder reached 10 digs for the 11th time this season.
- Vanja Bukilic had a season-high seven kills.
- Rutgers didn’t score more than three-consecutive points during the match.
- Set one: Ohio State had 16 kills without an error to begin the match and finished hitting .526 in the set.
- Set two: After taking a 5-4 lead, the Buckeyes did not trail in the set.
- Set three: Ohio State did not trail during the set.
