COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team opens its much-anticipated 2022 season with a pair of matches against No. 2 Texas inside the Covelli Center. The weekend begins on Friday at 8 p.m. ET with a match broadcast live on FS1 and concludes with a match on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET broadcast live on BTN. Parking is free for all fans in the Buckeye lots across the street from Covelli.
Women’s volleyball and women’s soccer are hosting a block party from 5-7:30 p.m. prior to Friday’s match on Irving Schottenstein Dr. between the Covelli Center and Jesse Owens Stadium. This portion of the road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 a.m. until approximately 8 p.m. Fans attending the block party are encouraged to walk over to Covelli at 7:15 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to wear their best scarlet this weekend to Covelli with glow wands being given to the first 3,500 fans in the door each evening. The weekend’s festivities will conclude with a post-match meet and greet with the team following Saturday’s match on the east concourse.
- In 2021, the Buckeyes made their second-consecutive regional semifinal appearance in the NCAA Tournament and concluded the season with a 27-6 record.
- OSU begins the season ranked seventh in the AVCA poll, with three other Big Ten teams also beginning the season in the top-10 nationally.
- Ohio State was selected to finish fourth in the Big Ten preseason poll, behind Wisconsin (defending national champions), Nebraska (2021 national runner-ups) and Minnesota.
- Senior setter Mac Podraza, junior opposite Emily Londot and junior middle Rylee Rader were selected to the preseason All-Big Ten team following successful 2021 seasons.
- 2 Texas went 27-2 overall and 15-1 in conference matches last season to earn a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns swept Sacred Heart and Rice in the first two rounds before earning a five-set win against No. 15 Washington in the regional semifinals. Texas’ season came to a close against Nebraska in four sets in the regional finals.
- The Longhorns began last season on an 18-match win streak before losing the second match at Baylor. Texas dropped only 16 sets all season.
- Ohio State is 1-8 in the all-time series with Texas, including an 0-2 showing when meeting in Columbus, however the teams have not played in 20 years and have faced off just once since the turn of the century.
