COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (11-5, 7-1 B1G) hosts Illinois (9-9, 4-4 B1G) and Iowa (7-12, 1-6 B1G) this week. Wednesday’s match against Illinois will be broadcast on BTN at 6 p.m. ET. Friday’s match against Iowa will be broadcast on B1G+ at 7 p.m. ET.
Wednesday is the mental health awareness match. Fans may also get in for free if they are taller than junior opposite Emily Londot. The first 500 students will receive a hat. The Buckeyes welcome back their alumnae on Friday evening and cap the evening with a post-match meet and greet.
- Ohio State was ranked sixth in the AVCA poll for the fourth-consecutive week.
- OSU is tied for second in the conference with a 7-1 Big Ten record.
- The Buckeyes earned their third Big Ten sweep of the season against Rutgers on Saturday (25-13, 25-15, 25-14) at home.
- Ohio State continues to have a balanced attack with three averaging at least 3.00 kills per set apiece – Emily Londot (3.74), Gabby Gonzales (3.31) and Jenaisya Moore (3.00).
- Illinois enters the match with an even 9-9 overall record and a 4-4 record in Big Ten play.
- Last week, the Fighting Illini swept Rutgers (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) in Champaign before being swept at No. 10 Minnesota (19-25, 23-25, 23-25).
- Illinois is 0-7 against ranked opponents this season, despite pushing three of those matches to five sets.
- Raina Terry leads the Illinois offense with 3.91 kills per set, while Diana Brown is averaging 10.44 assists per set this season. Carline Barnes leads the defense with 3.73 digs per set.
- Illinois leads 46-41 in the all-time series against Ohio State and has the 19-17 edge when playing in Columbus.
- The Buckeyes enter the match having won the last three against the Fighting Illini, including a road sweep (27-25, 25-18, 25-23) last November.
- Illinois’ most recent win in the series came in four sets (25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 16-25) on Nov. 24, 2019 against an unranked Buckeye squad.
- Iowa enters the week with a 7-12 overall record and a 1-6 record in Big Ten play.
- The Hawkeyes are coming off a five-set loss (27-25, 22-25, 15-25, 25-20, 13-15) to (then) No. 14 Penn State on Saturday.
- Iowa is 0-7 against ranked opponents this season but did push two of those matches to five sets.
- The Hawkeyes earned their lone conference win on Oct. 8 against Indiana in five sets (25-27, 25-13, 22-25, 25-11, 15-11).
- Ohio State leads 68-12 in the all-time series against Iowa and 35-6 when playing the Hawkeyes in Columbus.
- The Buckeyes enter the matchup with the last six wins in the series, including a sweep (25-16, 25-8, 26-24) on the road in this season’s conference opener.
- The Hawkeyes most recent win against the Buckeyes came on Nov. 24, 2018 (before the Jen Flynn Oldenburg era) in five sets (26-24, 24-26, 19-25, 25-18, 14-16).
